2.2 describe importance of continuing professional development
Page 96 Continuing professional development is important as it is a way of demonstrating that you are thinking about your own career and that you are interested in progressing and developing your role. You should always keep a record of all courses, qualifications and other ways in which develop professionally during the course of your career. your school may be able to track those you have attended since starting, but it is worthwhile keeping your own record. This will be a good reminder for you and also will be useful when applying for jobs or further qualifications.
3.1 describe why team work is important in schools
Page 99: Teamwork is important in any group of people who work together as it means that they have a shared purpose and a sense of common purpose. Whatever size the school you work in, you will be part of a group of people who each have a different role to fulfil while working to support individulas or groups of pupils. While each member of the team should know and understand their own role, they should also know and understand the roles of others in their team, and how they fit together.
In a school, it would be easy for members of the team to become very busy and preoccupied with the number of things which they need to do, and therefore to lose sight of the wider picture. This is why it is important for the team to meet regularly and prioritise how they work together for the benefit of the pupils.
3.4 Describe the importance of respecting the skills and expertise of other practitioners
Page 102:
You should remember that all members of the team are equally important, and that your expertise and that of your colleagues is iunique to each person's experience. You should always respect the opinions and knowledge which others bring. This s because in order to have a good working relationship with them you will need to show that you consider their opinions and expertise. If a member of your team has been working in schools for a long time and a new person comes in and tells them that things should be done a different way, it will cause bad feeling and resentment. These can quickly cause problems and unrest within teams.
As you become more experienced yourself, you may find that others come to you for help or advice. You should always think about your role and others within the team when doing this, while remaining supportive. Where you do not fee; that it is appropriate for you to deal with a particular issue, you may need to refer to someone else within the team. You must remain non-judgemental about others and not allow your opinions to intrude or cloud any decisions you may have to make.
