Bumper to Bumper - a traffic jam written and illustrated by Jakki wood.

At 19 years old this book is still one of the best you can have on your storybook shelf. Perfect for child-initiated reading and always a fun adult-led storytime. The keyword text, rather than a structured tale provides the opportunity for personalising the stories told.



It details 33 familiar vehicles, roadside objects, birds, animals and people.

Across each doubled page it the vehicles stand bumper to bumper, and on one occasion one bumper slightly too close to another.

Hatchback car - cement mixer - bicycle ... delivery van, caravan, four wheel drive car ... petrol tanker, flatbed lorry ... they and many more all take their place in line.

At the end of each page an illustrated hint of the following vehicle is given to turn the page with ... and as you re read the book you can discover the reason for the bouquets of flowers, why the seagulls are around, what they are getting up to and how it's possible to have your windscreen washed while you wait ..

There is also a look at the levels of frustration and annoyance that can be involved with life on the road, what an air horn can do to a seagull and what a seagull can do to a window ...

The book finishes with the cause of the traffic jam - traffic lights and a road crossing full of children

A great read and excellent book for exploring new words and language for discussion. The title is also very well placed to be added to any list for diversity or inclusion as it is promotes multi-culture and cross gender career roles with a lady delivery driver, large lorry driver and features mobile disability and wheelchair use.
