Default snowman lantern

if you fancy a big art job that is easy and looks impresive have a go at this one.
make a snow man shape out of chicken wire at least 3ft tall with a nice plump body. Leave a v shaped inch gap at the base in the back to feed a wire through. Cover in cling film then get the children to rip small pieces of tissue dip them in watery pva and cover the whole of the wire. This could take a few layers and it needs to dry between. Sprinkle frosty glitter on last layer. You can paint on features or use screwed up paper. Use a length of crepe paper for scarf. To attatch fairy lights use bauble hooks on the inside of the snowman to arrange and drape them around. It looks great but I dont leave it on for the whole day as sometimes the lights get a bit hot ( depends on your lights). I tell the children he needs a rest for a while or he will melt.
He doesnt need lights to look good so you could leave them out.

sorry no photo, we first had an artist in who made a wig wam lanterm 4ft tall from willow withies and the same cling film etc. since then we have adapted the process it is better if the structure is made with just a frame unfortunatly a snow man needs to be from wire. the school made a giant buutterfly in the same way it is infront of a large window and the light shines through a bit like a stained glass window.
on a lighter note we made large icicles from twisted silver pipe cleaners cling film tissue and glitter to make santas grotto, we hosted a network meeting and a head teacher from another school asked why we had *** aids hanging from the ceiling!
