General question Pencil pots, trays or boxes ..

How do you display and make pencils / crayons freely accessible in your group?

Is this a method you've found due to available resources or by experience built on everyones preference ?

We've tried a variety of ways from tupperware type pots, empty ariel liquitab boxes, sturdy yoghurt pots etc.

At the moment we have a tray with a handle that has four different sections and we put felt pens in one, pencils in another, wax in another. They seem to like it. That sits on the mark making table.

We also have pens and pencils in different types of pencil cases in one of the drawers. The boys who don't normally go to to the mark making table have now started doing so because they like using the "power ranger" or "ben ten" pencil cases which we got really cheaply at a shop called Biology.

I am quite excited by new new tray... the front has sections for pencils, crayons, felt tips and bits and bobs (pens, scissors etc).

The back has lots of paper - different sizes, colours etc plus colourings (I have a child who loves to colour), notebooks, old diaries, cards for cutting etc.

It has a handle so it can be easily taken outside and I can push it to the back when the little crawler is here so it's safe.

Only trouble is I nicked the tray from my cleaning cupboard so all my stuff there is messy now

In our nursery we often used empty plastic tumblers to store out crayons, pencils etc, until one member of staff was very concerned that some one might fall and take their eye out, i then challenged her to find a new way, she decided to use a cutlery insert, which worked well.
