Book Review: Monster Math - Rhyme & Build Activities

Monster Math ~ Written by Anne Miranda and illustrated by Polly Powell

A nice book that through rhyme follows the adventures of .. eventually 50 partying monsters !!

It's a good basic introduction to the concept of addition, multiplication and how to substract to just 1 again !

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finger rhymes:
Include the book in your monster activities along with twists to the more traditional counting rhyme - 5 little monkeys/monsters jumping on the bed
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Singing rhyme:

One little two little
Three little monsters ....

Lyrics and tune to the whole of this song can be read on this page of KIDdles.com website

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Discussion time:
During a circle time or whilst the children have plain paper to hand ask them some questions about what monsters might do ...
Do monsters eat bananas ?
How big is thier toothbrush ?
How many socks do they wear in winter ?
Would they take a teddy bear to cuddle in bed ?
What colour hair do they have ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Crafting and Creative play:

Playdough and sieves can give a very hairy monstery play time !!

Or for a cooking session how about these very cute coloured monsters:
