Hi has anyone got any ideas for helping a child settle in that we havent tried, the child is very angry at being left, lashes out and throws chairs etc, hits staff, trys to bite this has been happening since the start of term.
Mum came into the group and stayed for a few sessions to help him settle.
We have tried distraction in various ways, mum always says goodbye, we have tried bringing in something from home for the child to look after for mum, we have tried to ignore the behaviour, but since the throwing has become worse this is not possible, we have a visual timetable so the child can see the routine, the child has a keyworker special person to relate to, its such a shame the child gets really angry and frustrated, the child has good understanding of language, the child was not left as a toddler with anyone so its the first experience of being left outside the home, after the child has vented out the anger and frustration the child is fine for the session, although finds group time difficult, and when picked up has a beaming smile, anyone got any ideas? we would be very grateful.
