Hi, this free resource on amazon may help start things off.

2) Explain how both leadership and management involve a two way dynamic between the people involved

Use this level 5 handbook and search inside for the word dynamic and click to pages 211+

Quote:
A group consists of two or more people interacting in such a way that each individual influences and is influenced by another.
  • Physical environment
  • Psychological atmosphere - is everyone friendly and approachable, is it threatening in any way.
  • Personal thoughts and preoccupations
  • The level of interaction - is information understandable
  • Familiarity
3) Analyse how management and leadership styles influence team performance

Which theorists or research has your course tutor stated you need to study in order to approach this criteria?

Page 115, search for the words leadership styles. The book itself is aimed at Health and Social Care. You can balance its relevancy by researching Early Years theories eg. Jillian Rodd, Jennie Lindon but your tutor will be able to advise you on whom you're expected to look at.

Kurt Lewin

Authoritarian/Autocratic is having total authority and control over decision making: keeping everything under close scrutiny.

Democratic/Participative is a sharing type of leadership in which employees' participation in the decision making process is favoured.

Laissez-faire is the leadership style that favours leaving things to take their own course without interference

4) Analyse the features of an effective team and the barriers of effective team performance

Page 109,
search inside for features of effective team

This following quote is from page 120 of the 2012 Handbook
Characteristics of high performance teams:
  • Members are clear about and agree with the teams goals.
  • Tasks are appropriate to team versus individual solution
  • Members are clear about and accept their roles.
  • Role assignments match members' abilities
  • The leadership styles match the teams development level.
  • An open communication structure allows all members to participate.
  • The team receives, gives and utilities feedback about its effectiveness and productivity.
  • The team spends time defining and discussing problems it must solve or decisions it must make.
  • The team uses effective decision-making strategies.
  • The team implements and evaluates its solutions and decisions.
  • Task-related deviance is tolerated.
  • Team norms encourage high performance, quality, success and innovation.
  • Subgroups are integrated into the team as a whole
  • The team contains the smallest number of members necessary to accomplish its goals
  • Team members have sufficient time together to develop a mature working unit and to accomplish the teams goals.
  • the team is highly cohesive and cooperative.
  • Periods of conflict are frequent but brief, and the group has effective conflict management strategies.
    (Wheelan, 2005, p.40)
5) Analyse methods for conflict resolution within a team

Page 103 and 118 search for conflict and conflict within a team

If your setting already has or would fund them, these are useful reads - Leadership in Early Years by Jennie Lindon or Successful Leadership in the Early Years

Hope this helps a little x

Hi, you're looking to compare the different styles of management and leading people, understand and write about how they contrast from one another. How for example a hand's off approach Laisse-Faire works in contrast to an authoritarian approach where an individual or a set of named individual's control every aspect of a team.

Using your research of the different styles consider real-life practice and what it would be like to work in your setting under the styles.

If you use google & the free course title you can find the same materials on Open Learn's website.

Best wishes
