Children learn through play in many ways , exploration, investigation think about the different areas - psed, cll, kuw, psrn, pd, cd. if children couldnt explore through play how would they learn? children learn to negotiate, take turns, develop language skills, physical skills etc. An example may be manipulative skills - using playdough helps with fine motor skills which will lead to fine motor development - holding a pencil , manipulating it for a planned effect eg.emergent writing.
think about how children develop when they are given opportunities to learn eg a child with outdoor play will more physical/ gross motor skills than a child who does not have the same access/ opportunities.
hope this helps you
