Lightbulb Attention grabbers

Just read this great idea for getting the attention of a noisy roomfull!! ....

Sung to "If you're happy and you know it"

Put your finger in the air, in the air
Put your finger in the air, in the air
Put your finger in the air, then we place it right there (over lips)
Put your finger in the air, in the air

and was wondering what everyone else uses to grab the children's attention and calm the decible level ... lol

we tend to say "can everybody listen" and they normally do, always smeone who dosent so we ask them specifically.

does seem to work mostly.

have tried a tamborine before or "tidy up music" but not much good

I just put my fingers in the air and (usually) shout 'twinkly fingers please' and all children stop and put their twinkly fingers in the air.

I've previously explained to the children that the reason we put our fingers in the air is that I know then that all are listening

I wiggle my fingers in the air and say "Ushi" ...please dont ask me what it means !! i said it one day( it could have been one of my days when i had limited use of words, its an age thing they all tell me !!) and all the children went silent ...everyone looked at each other with a puzzled expression and we have used it ever since ...why it works i dont know, and with my children it also works without the fingers in the air ...

Default Listening ears

We shout - "Everyone show me your listening ears!" And we, children included, cup their hands round their ears ready to listen...
