Squirrel pox seems to be the largest threat to the Reds - a viral disease that kills Red quirrels 15 days from infection. Greys appear to have the necessary antibodies to protect themselves from the disease.
Immunisation, spread & implications of Squirrel Pox is still very much being investigated/developed and this Fact sheet contains some very useful informative
