Book Review Dazzling Diggers - Tony Mitton

Preschool and Early Years book reviews:

Dazzling Diggers by Tony Mitton and Ant Parker

This is one of 10 - I think .. Amazing machines story books and it is great . Very visual with wonderful rhyming text that accompanies each page .. as you join a group of animals and their diggers for a day's work ..

Diggers are noisy, strong and big

Diggers can carry, push and dig ...

12 pages to explore together, looking at and associating content to experiences and knowledge.

also ideal for the coming season and snow ..

If you build a digger wall display or make crafts and would like to publish a photo on this thread please get in touch - silky@silkysteps.com

The book ends with a 'Digger bits' page where keyword parts are illustrated - Good for identification and presenting methods of mechanism.
Jack, levers, tyres ..

Diggers, scoops and buckets - in the sand, soil, sawdust, pasta or artificial snow play areas ..

Scales and containers to compare amounts and quantities ..

Hands and water - large tongs, slices, and spatulas to pick up pebbles and icecubes from the water ... have bowls and buckets for collection

Digger chair drivers ...
Play a game of digger drivers with the children sat on chairs/ the digger seat. Use story directives to ask the children what actions may be involved in driving a digger ..

Build a script or read the story above and see who can use their feet to show .. pushing, digging, lifting, dropping and emptying .. braking and speeding up up may look

How they would trundle up the road, Rolling down. Use pretend levers to change a gear or buttons to make the siren blast or maybe have a light flash ..

When the days work has been done all pull up, shut down the engines and lock up the door ..

................................
Risk assess and check any medical requirements before undertaking lengthy or prolonged leg and chair exercises.

If you've planned other activity ideas please add on ..
