* Explain why it is important to : *believe a child,* remain non judgemental

Children have the right
under article 19 of the UNCRC to be protected from harm and exploitation, the Human Right Act's Article 3 which protects individuals from assaults that degrade or torture them and the The Children Act 2004
Quote page 88 EYE level 3 (2014)
The Children Act 2004 places a duty on local authorities and their partners to cooperate in promoting the well-being of children and young people and to make arrangements to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
The effects of abuse on someone can be short term or long term as can an allegation against someone that prooves unfounded. We have a legal duty through the early years framework of our home nation (EYFS if in england) to stand up and protect the children in our care and be aware of what poor practice is.
Quote: page 92 EYE level 3 handbook (2014)
Duties are fulfilled by:
Developing respectful and caring relationships between adults and children
consistently behaving as a professional adult in ways that demonstrate integrity, maturity and good judgement.
It's necessary to remain non judgemental as it's our professional responsibility not to discriminate against others, where abuse is suspected or alleged the setting's policies and procedures are followed to report concerns and protect the privacy of everyone involved.
* Describe how to raise awareness of suspected abuse
What is the policy and the procedures for reporting concerns in your setting? (
page 89 of the EYE handbook)
* Explain the importance of observing and monitoring children's behaviour for changes
Some children may not yet have the speech and language skills to express their experiences, they may be uncertain about sharing information with others, of not being believed, or afraid of possible consequences. Behaviour is an indicator of feelings and emotions, by monitoring children you are best placed to see any changes eg. unusual quietness, withdrawal, aggression, tear-fullness and can act swiftly by following the setting's policy and procedure for reporting concerns.
Pages 86+ of the level 3 EYE handbook examines all aspects of safeguarding and protecting the children from abuse
