General question Profiles

Out of interest how many hours do you expect your staff to spend on catching up on their keyworker children out of school hours? do you pay them?

Personally i think if we can't pay staff to do things in their own time then we can't expect or ask them to on a regular basis. I agree with occasional things like training or staff meetings but i think it's unfair to expect it regularly every day/week.

none at all. if its work its done in work time. its the managers responsibility to manage the setting in a way that allows every member of staff to be able to do their admin and it shows you value it and them.

Thats not always easy as it takes staff out of ratio and that doesn't make anyone happy lol.

Our staff are all paid for all training they do out of hours at their normal hourly rate. They are also paid to attend staff meetings and a weekly amount that covers "some" of their time building up learning journeys and reports.

no it takes staff out of minimum ratio. a good provision doesn't work to the minimum it strives to exceed it. the ratios are the very least ofsted expect. i am always puzzled when people say oh we meet the ratios as if it is something to be proud of. paying them out of hours is the next best thing as long as we respect their right to say no and their right to live their lives.

It is something to be proud of. Putting best practice into place to ensure ratios are maintained is an achievement. Just because its a requirement doesn't detract from the effort involved.

Chloe, we were paid for a set amount of time for record keeping - can't remember specific hours now sorry. We also did a lot of unpaid work to meet the group's own needs, not something that's recommended but at the time done because of the value placed in the work and the severe lack of funding, like to think that wasn't so much the case now .

Childminders don't get paid extra - we don't even get a minimum wage unless we work with more than one child - and many of us work evenings and weekends!

We must really love our work!
