Default Unit 303 - Observations (Free Play)

Hey All

Am having a few problems with one of my obs for 303. Have done a 30 min tracking ob of 2 children. Had to do it at lunchtime as reception children don't have free play as such. Anyway. got the ob done without problem and am now writing everything up.

I need to make references to theorists and am really struggling with the one child because she didn't play. She just wandered around and watched everyone else. She did not speak to anyone.........

Can anyone please point me in the right direction for a theorist please. I know that Freud said that children watch and then imitate, but this child just watched...there was no imitation at all. I am really struggling here.

Please help

My brain is hurting from trying to relate this to someone.

bandura-children learn by observing others

you can also look at ages and stages by penni tassoni or meggit and sunderland etc and quote that they say at this age a child should....

also look on theories of social development and interaction, i think piaget or frobel says that children are ego-centric until much later.

you could also look at theories on introvert and extrovert personalities and see if vigotski had the oppinion that we are born with our personalities pre programned and talk about others who disagree (nature v nurture).

if your looking for theories to do with what you could do to improve the childs development talk about all the play theoriests and say youd improve her social skills through a range of group play activities/sessions.

hope this helps
