Highfive World Turtle Day - 23rd May Annually

World Turtle Day - awareness campaign on 23rd May each year.

This excellent campaign highlights some of the dangers that our world's Turtles & Tortoises are facing.

Originally organised by American Tortoise rescue it was hoped that by bring peoples attention to all the conservation issues that affect turtles and tortoises - a postitive approach can be taken to improve conditions for them.

Wikipedia have more detailed information on the Campaigns history - About World Turtle Day

The UK's Marine conservation Society - MCSUK have a great deal of information on their website - A brand new Cool Seas Roadshow resources section is now available.

Details on adopting a turtle can be for on this page of their site.

How you want to get involved ~ personally or by passing on the knowledge of care & wellbeing surrounding these reptiles to our children, is up to you ... whichever ~ enjoy being a part of World turtle day

Turtle Craft activities

Mischief Mouse has a great Turtle's Journey craft here and Outdoor games - Turtles Journey

Spindle Spider has this 'Tortoise's roses' colouring picture

Use up-turned yougurt pots as Tortoise and Turle shells - collage them with brown & green paper.
use a circle as the base/body - cut a head and flippers/legs

Put shells & rocks into your water tray and let the children play with small plastic turtle/aquatic animals.

Fingerpaint Turtle pictures - use a variety of colours and then as a wall display idea - Stick all the turtle pictures to the backing paper then hang streamers of blue/white & irredescant cellophane from the top - creating an 'ocean waterfall' effect.

Let the children move the cool/rustling streamers to discover their turtle beneath!!

May 23rd also sees the beginning of Dragonfly week - run by the british dragonfly society we have a craft that can help start off any plans on introducing dragonfly information to your group xx Please see this thread for more information and learning area linked suggestions - Dragonfly week
