looking to go into childminding

Hi there,
Ive been looking into going into childminding and wanted to be available mon-fri 9-3 so im looking at taking on children 3-5 years (older children will be at school, younger children means not so many children) however doing some research shows the ratio is 1:3 3-5 years on this note i dont see how it is possible to use this as an income? and so wondered how so many people do it?
Any advice would be much appreciate

Hi I thought the ratio was 1:8 at this age (not that you would want 8 if you were on your own!) might be best to check with Ofsted. I work at a pre-school and this is the ration to which we work with - it may be different with a childminder. I am also thinking of setting up on my own so would be interested to hear what you find out.

Hi i currently work in a pre school at the mo too and also our ratio is 1:8 but for childminding its 1:3. i just dont know how people do it.

Hi Charlotte
I have been minding for several year now and the ratio is 1:3 in the early years bracket bur you can have an additional three of school age!
The income is varied depending on what you charge and how full you are, i offer mon- friday 7.30 to 6pm, which allows me to care for full time through the day and cater for school runs!!

you may want to think about it in most areas every child over 3 is in nursery from 3!
