very few pure assessor jobs around now as people are expected to both teach and assess. to teach you need the dtlls but you need 6 hrs a week teaching to apply. if you can see some assessing work by you its worth doing the A1 or whatever its called now. All lecturers had to do it in order to mark the written components of the dcypw so lots of places now get them to assess as well which is why we lost the assessors.

The A1 is now formally known as TAQA Training Quality Assurance. It is worth investing in and there are still quite a few jobs just for assessors especially within the field of childrecare and supporting teaching and learning (Support assistants).

I would just like to clarify and confirm that Lecturers who are required to assess assignments, also need to obtain their TAQA(A1), having cert-ed, PTLLS, DTLS does not automatically qualify them to assess. Within the last 12 months I have seen an increase in lecturers applying for their TAQA Assessor and TAQA IQA qualification.

As an assessor there are not set times to work and probably no such thing as part time you end up doing lots of stuff at home. Most FE colleges are reducing their full time staff now and taking on sessional workers or freelance to save money full caseload between 30-40 learners
