SOS EYE311 Unit help!

Hi,

So im working on the topic about theoretical perspectives in relation to physical development, but im struggling to find relevent information for it. I know to research Arnold Gesell and Reggio Emilia but all the information i have found doesn't seem to be of any relevance.

Any help would be truly appreciated!!

Thanks~

Hi, this is a quote from page 57 of this EYE handbook:

Arnold Gesell

In the 1930s, Arnold Gesell mapped out some norms of development. These were used to chart milestones in the child's development as it unfolded. Gesell believed that normal development progressed according to a set sequence. His milestones could be used to check that the pattern of development was 'normal'. Gesell's developmental scales looked at motor, adaptive, language, personal - social areas. If children reached particular milestones such as walking, within the 'normal' age range , then their development was said to be making 'normal' progress. This approach is depressing if used with children with special educational needs, as they are constantly labelled 'not normal'.

Search inside for the words 'stages of physical development' & the link to page 34 to see how his work relates to the layout of normative, stages, milestones of physical development.

Page 249 looks at the Reggio Emilia approach and the role of the environment, and involvement of parents in supporting children's development.

Hope this helps a little

Best wishes
