Hi you need to be able to apply your own skills in these areas so that you can support the children in their learning of these and all subject areas. Your knowledge of English, maths and ICT impacts on your ability, confidence to do this.
Your setting will have lists of courses - short and long, and also hold in-house training sessions that you can enrol on or attend. Check with the class teacher who is responsible for mamanging staff training.

When supporting teaching and learning the work that you do with pupils will cover different curriculum areas. However the development of skills in English, maths and ICT will come up in all aspects of the curriculum and you will need to support pupils and draw their attention to this.
For example, when carrying out work in geography, pupils may need to create charts and graphs using computer programs; during food technology they may need to use their maths skills to calculate quantities in recipes.
Pupil's skills in written English as well of those speaking and listening will be developed throughout teaching and learning activities. As you get to know pupils, you will develop more of an awareness of their individual needs and the kinds of skills which they need to work on. This in turn will help you to target the support that you are able to give them.

Math skills:
- counting and understanding numbers
- knowing and using number facts
- calculating
- understanding shape
- measuring
- gathering information by counting and measuring
- handling and presenting data in graphs, diagrams and tables

ICT skills:
When you are wqorking with pupils to develop theior ICT skills you will need to balance the amount of assistance you give them while allowing them to develop their independence. As in other subject reas your role is to enable and encourage them in their learning so that they do not become over-dependent on adults.
Think about the ICT that happens in your setting and how confident you are using and assisting pupils with

- programmable toys & equipment
- smartphones
- laptops & tablets
- interactive whiteboards
- digital cameras
- specialist equiment for pupils with SEND
- podcasts
- presentation software & recording packages
