Out of School Club Planning? Not sure what Ofsted are wanting to see!

Hi everyone!

I’m currently working in an outstanding rated private nursery that also runs an out of school club for children between 4-12 years. I run the out of school club on an evening and I’m not 100% sure about what kind of planning ofsted would want to see. I understand that we still take early years children, but with them being at school now I’m unsure what we are duty bound to provide. I’ve read that out of school clubs are exempt from delivering the EYFS but I’ve also read about clubs being downgraded for not having key persons for all their children?! Everything I read seems to be contradictory. Does anybody else have this confusion? Has anybody had feedback from ofsted on what they’re looking to see? Any advice would be great!

I help run an afterschool club and used to run holiday clubs previously. 'Playworkers' will say let children do want they want when they want ( within reason). Yes, do a little planning that will cover you for Ofsted if they visit, but ask the children what they would like to do (say ) next week and try and do those activities. Mine like making jelly and angel delight, making Rocky Road, Hama Beads, decorating plates and masks. Our new theme is the Olympics. So we making bunting, flags, medals, trying different sports. Pick a theme and then brainstorm from that. It is amazing what the children can think of.
