Default Cemetery Cake

I just thought I would share my Halloween creation with you. I was appalled by the cost of a shop-bought cake, so I made my own...

I made a simple sponge in a square tin, covered it with green icing, sprinkled coconut and sprayed that green with food colouring then stuck in my shortbread gravestones - engraved using a cocktail stick and ta-daa!! I'm very pleased with it and I hope I inspire some of you to have a go too.

The shortbread recipe I used:

9oz plain flour
3oz caster sugar
6oz butter

Mix together flour and sugar, rub in butter, knead to form a smooth paste, then bake for 30 mins at 160oC.

Everyone is 'dying' to try it!

You want a cemetery cake for christmas!!!???!!!:rotfl: Actually, I'm considering buying this year's christmas cake! I'm tired and stressed and can't be chewed to be honest! Anyone recommend a good cake? Actually, just recommend the fruit cake - I quite like decorating them..

I love using the tri coloured Angel cake for making & decorating Birthday cakes .. yummy - cheap & a lot less hassle .. plus it makes the children think the plate full of homemade fairy cakes taste different to the main cake

re: xmas cake. my grandma makes 4 friut cakes at the beginning of the year and leaves them to 'mature' all year. then mid december she gives one to me,one to my mum, another to my sister and keeps one for herself and we all decorate them with lil xmas bits and bobs!

Wow a cemetery cake! Unheard of, to be honest. I’m going to try buying from this baker who’s very popular around my area - Gladys Gourmet Cakes. A lot of my friends have tried her cakes so this year I’m going for it too.

Ohh wow! That’s nice! I’ve always wanted to bake a cake but I’ve often felt too lazy!
This time I just ordered it from a website my friend referred called Gladys, the cake was amazing and honestly not very expensive!
