Rhyme, rhythm and song:
Five Red ladybirds or /ladybugs
(Sung to tradition currant bun tune)

Quote:
Five red ladybugs sitting on the ground
Eating their greens and NOT looking around !!

Along came xx with a magnifying glass
Crept up quietly to watch ladybugs in the grass!

Enable ownership of this rhyme by using children's own ladybug models as the focus. Place them all together on a grass green sheet and recite the rhyme together. At the 'along came' cue invite a volunteer to visit and 'watch' and at the end of the rhyme ask if the ladybug will stay to finish their meal or wants to go back with the child.
