Hi, a set of values considered to represent what it means to be Brisih was introduced in 2014 as part of the then Government's Prevent Duty, the anti-terrorism act.

The four British values aren't explored in the level 3 EYE books however there is a good title from Practical Pre-School which looks at how they relate to early years settings - Promoting Fundamental British values in the Early Years (search inside amazon's book preview for the word 'democracy').

Quote:

British early years settings should already be actively promoting the values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and belief, as these are all represented within the Human Rights Act 1998 and the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) 1989.

Therefore, when thinking about how to define each of the four British values it is helpful to consider how they promote human rightd legislation because, introducing British values to young children is just the same as introducing them to their human rights.

The duty is for us all to ‘actively promote’ the fundamental British values of ;
  • democracy
  • the rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

Hope this helps
