Default Sick Leave

does any one know if the committee can force someone to take 4 weeks unpaid sick leave? I've been having a few problems at home and work recently and mentioned it to my supervisor. Next day I was told I had to take 4 weeks unpaid sick leave. My doctor has said I am ok to work, I feel ok to work, have never let my problems interfere with my work. I asked the supervisor if I had done anything wrong and was told no, but I wasn't to come back to work for 4 weeks.

Unless you have a doctors note you cant claim sick pay or stamps etc.I think they would have to prove a good reason for this. Its a suspension in my eyes.suggest you phone the O.people or your local childcare group ndna or what ever.Unless this is affecting your work Id tell them sorry and just turn up for work.

Thankyou. I have just had a meeting with them and asked if they had a valid reason for me to stay off work for 4 weeks, the answer was no, we just feel you need time off. I said has anyone got a problem with my work, no everyone was very happy with my work, infact they were more than happy, parents had made lots of positive comments on my work, so why was it suggested that I have time off, the answer was because I look tired, work hard and thought I may like a break!! Needless to say I will be back next week. I have lost money already over this and feel I've been treated unfairly. If there was a problem with my work then I would have to accept it, but I don't feel comfortable with the reasons they gave me. May have to start looking for a new job.

I agree with Patsy, give ACAS a call. I was furious when I read your post,:bomb: so I've been searching the internet trying to find out any information and even asked DH to ask in the office at his work - but all to no avail (unless I was an employer, which is no good!!!) For all it's been resolved, you have lost money and had quite a bit of worry over it (on top of your other problems too!) and it's just not on!! Fingers crossed, chin up and we're all here for you.

Thankyou all for the support. I do intend to take it further because although it has been resolved and I am 'allowed' back to work, I still don't feel I've been given a valid reason for the way I've been treated. I will walk back to work next week with my head held high and carry on as normal, I won't let the children or other staff know how I feel because I am a proffessional and much better than the committee members!! I don't think I will be happy to stay in the job knowing how they treated me but I am going back on my terms and I will leave on my terms, not theirs! As you can see I am feeling much more positive today. Thanks again, will keep you updated.

Thank you

Hey Farlyes!

I just wanted to give you a I have been in a similar situation and know how you feel about continuing to work for the same people!

I was kind of the opposite situation where I HAD a sicknote and had been off for a few weeks due to a VERY difficult situation in my personal life! for the 8 years previous I must have had a total of 4 weeks of sick!! Which compared to my many colleagues was nothing! I had devoted all of my time and effort to the setting and NEVER gave any cause for concern - my work was always fo a high standard etc

Anyway, despite HAVING a valid sick note my employer more or less told me that I was expected back at work now or I wouldnt get the promotion I was after!

Needless to say I told him I would be back when it was appropriate for my health and well being and not before! I got my promotion and more or less moved on straight away - I didnt want to work for someone who couldnt support me when I NEEDED it!!

My employer was so sore about it that he wrote me a reference for my next job which was a complete list of lies - serious lies! If it wasnt for my other references I wouldnt have got the job!!! (and I thought I had left on good terms!!) I SOOOOOOO wish I had done something about that reference in hind site! but at the time I just didnt have the energy wih everything else that was going on in my life!

Im a very level headed person but I tell you this....if I ever bump into my previous employer....!! :gnasher: :talktothe

Opps! lol sorry guys I'll get down off my soap box and stop ranting now!! Farleys I just wanted you to know I understand!!! take care! and make sure you follow it up or like me you will probably regret it!!

Take care!

Thankyou Anj,
I intend to. They will get a shock when I return because they have pushed me around for the last 2 years, making me lose all confidence, I have always excepted the way they have treated me, but no more. I will not just sit back and accept this, I am alot stronger than they think and have been pushed too far this time. It is so nice to know that everyone on here is behind me. Makes me feel strong enough to sort this out so they don't do it to me or anyone else again. Thanks again and thankyou for the hug, it was needed!! FARLEYS
