Hi, these two threads will help:

http://www.silkysteps.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13315

http://www.silkysteps.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15156

and the search page will find more if you enter keywords or unit numbers.

In addition to those ..

Children's and young people's rights

The UNCRC silkysteps page of links and article 6

Children act 1989 summary this explains the aims of the act in protecting a child and a parent's right to parent.

In the
NSPCC understanding legislation in the UK it quotes the children's act 1989 as defining the term harm as " ill-treatment (including sexual abuse and non-physical forms of ill-treatment) or the impairment of health (physical or mental) or development (physical, intellectual, emotional, social or behavioural) (section 31)"

Adults - parents and carers

Human rights - right to respect for your private and family life
Quote:
The right to a private life means that you have the right to carry on your life privately, without government interference, as long as you also respect the rights of other people

Parental responsibility

Equality act 2010

Quote
" The rights of children, young people and their carers are:
-- for them to be given acurate information and help to understand it
-- to express themselves and be heard
-- refuse repeated medical examinations and questioning (eg. following allegations of physical or sexual abuse)
-- be consulted and kept fully informed of proceedings and decisions about their future"
Source page 199 - collins level 3 handbook amazon.co.uk link

If you check policies and procedures - safeguarding policy? at your place of work it may help show how children, young people's and parents/carers rights are protected. Through appropriate ways of reporting/recording, sharing information and working in partnership.

Hth
Enjoy the site :)

Hi I'm really struggling this assignment I think I might be over complicating the question. Am I right in thinking I just need to say about the children having the right to be treated with respect and that carers have the right to have their say and know what is being said about them?
Trying to answer 4.3 Explain the rights that children, young people and their carers have in situations where harm or abuse is suspected or alleged.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
