Seasons in a water bowl ...

Put Winter into a bowl of water for the children!!

This activity could be done as a small stand alone/free play or as a larger group activity.

With supervision the children can then talk about and gently explore the items you have provided in the water ~ how they represent winter and what they feel like.
White stones
Glass pebbles
Small plastic lids
Fir cones
A variety of glitters & sequins

Large circular (shallow) bowl.
Towels to mop up spills

Make the activity up with the children ~ building the 'Winter pond' together.

Display all your resources so that the children can handle them dry and wet.
Place the pebbles & beads into the bowl and add the water.
Sprinkle on the glitters & sequins - they should float on the water surface!!

Play Activities
Use the bottle lids the catch and collect the sequins.
Dip the fir cones into the water to catch glitter.
How many Pebbles can a plastic lid hold before it sinks?
Collect 3 things that are different colours.
With small sticks stir the glitters & move the pebbles around.

View from above !!

RISK ~ Please check before and after to ensure the stones & pebbles have no sharp broken edges that the children can cut themselves on.
Dispose of if they pose a danger.

Most of these items can be easily found in shops .. build up a 'Natures cupboard' for all your seasonal resources.

Change the bowl contents for each season
