Families of disabled children in Wigan lose vital Portage and Key Worker Service due to cuts. Two services for disabled children under five and their families in Wigan are to close from April 2011, following news that they will cease to receive funding from Wigan Council. The KIDS Portage (home learning and support) service in Wigan has grown from supporting nine to 14 children.Â*Portage staff work in partnership with parents to plan individual early learning programmes for each child.Â* Visits are made fortnightly and toys and equipment are left for the family to work with during the week.
