Identity is who you are, your individuality, your beliefs and personality. Our identity is how we see ourselves as well as who we are -our age, culture, gender etc...
Some theorist suggest we develop our idenity through trying different ways of behaving until we feel comfortable with certain ways; by following family traditions and cultures; by copying role models; and by feedback and reactions we get from others.
Children begin recognise who they are early on in life, but this changes and develops as we grow and mature and our identity can be affected by our experiences and on how we are treated. Remember the poem 'A child'? if we are told we are aclever, helpful and good person we will grow up believing this, if a person is put down all their life or have not been listened to they will have a poor sense of identity.
