Hi think about all the different carers that your setting has contact with eg. parents, childminders, other nurseries, preschools, early years settings, schools. How does your setting work with them/keep in touch?
What sort of information or events do you share and how?
If you have the
level 2 handbook page 269 looks at this xx
page 271 Developing and sustaining partnerships with carers
In many of your settings you will work closely with parents and carers, of the children that you look after. There are many ways of developing and sustaining these partnerships to ensure children get the best possible care.
One of the main ways of doing this is through a key person system. Ofsted says: 'All of these settings have key workers (a specially named person for the children and parents) who spend time talking with families to learn all they can about their children before they start' (Ofsted Annual Report Focus on Early Years 2008/09)
A key person will:
Communicate with parents of key children on a daily basis.
Support any transition or attachment issues.
Another way to develop and sustain partnerships with parents and carers is to share as much information as possible with them. If you keep them informed about their child the communication will become more effective.
eg.
- Inviting parents to meetings before the child's admission to share policies and procedures and to complete the required contact forms.
- Ask parents/carers for information about their children's individual needs and requirements.
- Display daily routines and details of the setting on a notice board
- Give information about the curriculum via regular newsletters/posters/website
- Give information about outings by newsletters/letters/home-school link books
- Ensure parental/carer permission is given for outings, with information given about the purpose of the visit.
- Welcome parents/carers in to discuss their child with their key worker.
- Encourage parents/carers to share any relevant information about changes to their child's normal family life or routine
- Give any changes about a child's situation to the appropriate person in charge of records so that these can be updated.
