Hi Kim

Well what they want from you here is to see if you understand how disability affects development and that you can tell how different disabilities will affect different areas of development and not nessesarelly the childs whole development.

For example: (this is just one of four examples I included)
A child may have been born without a leg. This will affect the child’s physical development. They may struggle to balance when learning to sit and crawl. They won’t be able to walk until they are old enough for a prosthetic limb and even then it may take them longer to learn to walk that a child with two legs.

How much they struggle with these thing will depend on: How much of the leg is missing, the age at which they get a prosthetic leg, the quality of the prosthetic and the care taken in helping the child to learn to walk. A disability like this won’t necessarily have any knock on effect to other areas of development such as cognitive or language however as the child grows they may become more conchus of the fact they have this difference which may have an impact on their social development.

I also did a sensory disability (deaf/HI), learning (dyslexia) and multipul (CP)

I also wrote a little bit about all children being different wether they have a disability or not and this taken into account as even if you have two children in a setting with the exact same disability they may still be affected in different ways.

I hope this is of some help to you, do you have the level 3 handbook?

Charlie

the textbook for diploma helpe me, also you need to consider the support they may need- do they have it? if not how does that affect them... things such as equipment can offer the child the chance to be a bit more independant for example a child who is in a wheelchair and cannot walk if he has a stair chair or ramps he will be able to get himself upstairs or if he has a bed hoist could get himself out of bed... this gives them their independance back in areas allow them to develop more confidence and motivation etc... xx
