Finger paste messy play recipe

Simmer cornflour and water until it formas a paste and colour with paint.
Use spatulas and brushes to move the mixture around and create colour patches on acrylic sheets  table tops or trays where paper can be applied to the surface then peeled back to reveal the print.

Resources needed

A Perspex sheet, safety mirror to use as a painting window. Collage and scenery pieces to build texture - optional

Finger paste recipe:

4 Heaped dessert spoons of cornflour to every
1 pint of water. 
Poster or powder paint to colour
Access to a heat ring / cooker + Saucepan

Method:

purple Measure 1 pint of water - pour 3/4 of it into a saucepan.
purple In the remaining 1/3rd measure and stir in the cornflour / cornstarch.
purple Stirring continuosly add to the saucepan.
purple Cook over a medium heat until the cornflour mix begins to thicken.
purple Once it becomes smooth, and has a thickened, transparent consistency remove from the heat.
purple  Continue stirring - the paste retains its heat for a considerable time.
purple   Leave to cool

purple Once cooled colour with paint.
purple Check consistency for spreading, mark making and picture building




Combine the finger paste ingredients
stir and cook the cornflour finger paste
