help needed for a 4 year old!!

Hi I was wondering if anyone can help? I've got a friend who is at wits end and has run out of ideas on what to do!!

Bascially she had a 4 year old who keeps waking up every hour or so saying she's wet the bed, needs a drink, a hug, or that she didnt want chocolate spread in the sandwiches anymore! They have tried everything, have had the health visitor out and even she has run out of ideas! its making life hard in her household as she has a 2 year old and is 7 months pregnant.

please can anyone help, we would be very grateful xx

i am surprised the health visitor hasnt suggested a sleep clinic ! she will have access to one and can refer the family.

hi there

This sounds like a classic case of feeling neglected on the onset of new baby, as she is also the oldest she may feel that she is expected to look after her little brother/sister the 2yr old. Does she have her own room.perhaps something could be done to make her room special. Taking time out to reasure and talk to her maybe role play, look how she plays with her toys has she got a doll.
i think it is wrong to refer to a sleep clinic, this should be the last resort.

if its any consolation my own children didnt sleep proper through the night till late in life and still need little sleep nowdays

Hope this helps and remember above all to keep calm and not to make the child aware there is a problem.

Maria

Hi Maria

Have only seen your reply on here! so sorry for just replying now.

No she doesnt have her own room, she shares with her younger sister until they find somewhere new to live with more bedrooms. she's a very much a girly girl from what I know and loves playing with dolls etc, so i will get them to see how she plays with them.

thanks again x
