Functional Skills English L2

Hi guys, I know this has nothing at all the do with the CYPW, but I wasn't sure where else to post!!

I've been asked to research and plan notes for a presentation on a familiar subject about a concern that has been raised within the sector of C&YP, including childcare (Victoria Climbie, Soham murders, Baby P, etc)

I've got to present my findings in front of a small group!! The only thing I am struggling with is WHAT to write about and 2 I am NO GOOD at formal presentations and I know I will fall flat on my face!! I would really appreciate if anyone can advise me on what to do, if you've done something similar for the functional skills I would really appreciate any help at all!!! :dizzy:

In the presentation I have got to include:

- a brief description of what the concern was
- what the outcomes of the investigation were
- what impact has this had on your setting/role/school
- what were the different public views raised about this concern

The presentation will be recorded and should last approximately 10 minutes...

HELP!! Like I said any help would be greatly appreciated!! :bawling:

Hi,
The hardest part is getting you head around the presenting work in front of others :)

Briefly explain the case you are doing, such as the Soham murders.
As its only 10 mins remember to make it as an outline but keep notes for if you have questions at the end.

Find out the outcomes - so for the Soham case CRB checks were not done regularly and for every setting. The Climbie case it was lack of communication and partnership working between settings that she was under.

The impact on what the cases had - so it is now law that you cannot work at a multiple settings with only one CRB check because of the Soham case. And obviously the Laming report resulted in the Every Child Matters agenda that every setting working with CYP follow. Think about the policies and procedures set up to abide by the five outcomes of ECM. This has had a major impact on the way settings care for children.

Finally you could possibly get quotes for your presentation, with reference, to back up the importance of the changes made after these cases. This way it will help link in to a conclusion.

Hope this helps

Oh and i'm sure once you've done it you will be wondering why you was worried to begin with :)

The different public views seems a little tricky.
Perhaps there are quotes from the parents, the police officers dealing with the case or the judge who sentenced him? Have a look on the Guardians or BBC news website.
Or could you add to it by doing a Q+A with someone in the childcare profession and someone who's not? Start it out by saying you retold the facts and got their views, do they remember this case being on the news? how did they feel about it? Do they feel enough has been done to prevent it from happening again?
