Diversity and Inclusion

Am hoping someone will point me in the right direction as am really confused with the following question. We have been told to identify one aspect of diversity and inclusion and explore it in more depth by carrying out a short enquiry. We are further advised to use Siraj- Blatchford self-evaluation tool or the HGIOELC to grade our results. Can someone help. Am really struggling with this one. Thanks in advance.

Hi a warm welcome to the site. Which aspects have you been given to choose from or have been taught by your tutor?

You can find the download link for the HGIOELC framework on this page - How Good Is Our Early Learning Childcare

Hi Ruthierhyme and thanks for getting back to me. We have bben given Gender, Disability and Race to choose one aspect from. Was thinking of looking at Gender in more depth. Any resources you could advise or any help I would appreciate.

Hi, gender is good :) you may find this resource supportive https://earlyyearsscotland.org/blog/...he-early-years and also the neutral-gender policy of Swedish settings which is interesting research - https://www.theguardian.com/teacher-...-alien-concept

Use your setting's situation and practices as evidence for your enquiry. Look at attitudes to gender and how welcoming and inclusive the activities are.

If you use the HGIOELC framework the quality indicators on page 5+ will help you evaluate by having you ask yourself about the setting's leadership, management and it's approach to gender. Learning provision and how the setting supports and promotes issues of gender through its areas of play, toys, activities, partnership with parents and planning. Successes and achievements and how the children understand equal rights, regardless of gender for their future life choices.

Hope this helps a little, best wishes xx
