Help applying for nursery job please!
 

Hello!

I am a registered childminder (been registered since Sept 2006) but not had any interest.

Anyway, a vacancy has come up locally for a nursery assistant (like gold dust around here) and I have asked for an application form, can anyone help me with regards to what areas I should highlight experience and skills wise, I want to make a really good impression.

Obviously being a registered childminder I have done a brief childcare course, I have an Early Years First Aid Certificate and an enhanced CRB check.

I have an 18 month old son so have experience with children/babies.

The nursery has children from 3 months to 5 years.

Any advice/tips appreicated, I have always wanted to work with children so really want to make a go of this. :smile:

Making sure you're familiar with all the standards is pretty much par for course .. Relax :cheerful: should be the next pointer :D lol
A comfortable & 'chilled attitude is what a lot look for .. more training can come along at any time .. attitude & a love of the work shows through a mile away !

I would show that you are aware of equal opportunities (race, culture, gender, special needs etc).

Also, its not just the children you need to have an understanding about, its the parents, and showing that you could communicate with them about their children in a confidential and friendly manner.

And, show that you understand the need for health and safety issues, risk assessments, food hygiene, washing hands etc.

And, how you could encourage self confidence and independence, ie letting them choose their own activity, put on their own coats, wash their own hands, toilet themselves, etc, if they can.

A lot of its common sense, its just remembering it!! But I'm sure you'll do well, by the sound of it, you are brimming with enthusiasm, and that should shine through. Thats the most important bit!
