Just wondered if anyone knows - can an employer make staff sign contract job discriptions when they have been in the job years and they are self employed??

I'm pretty sure employers can't make you sign anything you don't want to .. however legally it's probably a minefield !!

are the staff truly 'self-employed' in the first place ~or is the employer just finding a way not to pay-holiday entitlement?

hmmm, difficult one this! I would have thought you SHOULD have a job description and i would imagine you could sign it to show you understand your role...............it's not a contract of employment, is it, which would be a different thing altogether? Be careful............maybe citizens advice could go through it with you??My old group were an absolute shambles.......................although I had a contract/job description etc, I discovered to my cost, that they had not paid one penny in tax or insurance for me for the time i was there..........which was a very long time!! (That's why it's now my OLD group!)So,make sure they are doing everything else right, even if you are self-employed!

As I am self employed I sort out my own tax and ins .. !!
