Graduate Leaders ?
Graduate leaders.
Information from EveryChild matters Do you think this 'target & all its implications will improve provision or stifle innovative new comers, their choices and potential outcomes ? |
graduate leaders
::wave:Just had a quick perusal, looks impressive. Can only be a good thing, raising standards and all that. Only wish they had implemented it a few years ago, would have loved to have gone for it myself .

I'm not completety sure standards will rise nor am I completely sure those that push for 'higher & higher attainment levels from Adults can see the potential damage ..
After a grateful pointer to this news item - Majority of nursery staff are poorly qualified from Timesonline. It was a relief to read the down to earth & thankfully common sense approach of the comment authors ( only three published at time of this posting ) The Official report from IPPR and Co author Mr Graeme Cooke's Bio page |
Have just read the report on nursery staff being poorly qualified. In my setting my owner/manager is L4 OU qualified and hoping to complete her l5 shortly I think she did it extra quick!!! I am working towards my l4 nvq and afterwards, if I can stand it, go for l5. One of our practitioners is working towards her l3 and the other (who is new to childcare) is working towards her l2.
When I achieve my l4, i doubt I will get any more money, but as one of the replies to the article says - you work in childcare coz you love it not for the money!!! When we have all the degree level leaders in pre-school or nursery - where will the money come from to pay them their much higher wages - or will they just work for the same level of pay as us?? Don't think so somehow!!! |
:soapbox: Once qualified to degree level i'm guessing staff in childcare will be as qualified as a school teacher? I'm also thinking the money will be nowhere near as high as teachers though i know that's not great it's still higher than in childcare, so will a lot of graduates not head for schools when they realise that no extra money is forthcoming. It's about time childcarers were paid their worth especially graduate ones! Am put off doing graduate training for this very reason.

But the new EYFs allows for that.. a graduate leader can work with children on a 1-13 ratio so less staff and more money for the graduate... but can they really grow all those extra arms and legs to do all the jobs at the same time that 3 year olds need. and how does the child benefit from that. Would not want to do it at all...

I greatly admire anyone who takes on the Foundation Degree, EYPS or any other FE training willingly, for those that embark on it through necessity of national regulation I hope find the support they need is well in place and faultlessly fit for purpose.
