Hi,
I had this to do before Christmas and used fireworks night but the same principle would apply.
1. Read the story of Little Red Riding Hood - a really visual copy would be best
2. Make sure you have prepared some props - basket/red cape/wolf ears- (paper plate mask)/shawl for grandma
3. Get the children to act out the story - asking the older ones to narrate and getting the smaller ones to act it out. Lots of "what happened next?" and you may need to guide the children a lot to begin with.
4. If you make sure you empahise the repetitive parts of "OH WHAT BIG....YOU HAVE GRANDMA" getting all the children to join in.
5. All the time you can be discussing how Little Red Riding Hood could have helped herself and how could the children help themselves - in the park, stranger danger etc etc. Getting them to shout "NO" or "GET OFF"
The overiding concern I had was how far to take it as many parents do not wish their preschool child to be terrified! so it is a balance and by weaving it round the story of Little Red Riding Hood will help to strike the balance.
We had a real mixed bag of ages and they loved the acting part. I use this quite often to do observations and the more you do it the more used to joining in they become :)
Good Luck and hope this helps.
Lucy
