Defining professionalism
 

How do you define professionalism?
I'm having a few issues with my playworkers and the saying that keeps entering my head is "that's not being professional or she lacks professionalism"
This has got me asking myself what is professionalism? and i'm struggling to come up with a definition :dizzy:

Hiya, totally front line, how does having the ability to 'not say anything even though you're burning up to' fit?

In practice to put others first. To perform duties requested without negative comment. Give honest feedback in times when it's appropriate - rant behind closed doors, ideally to the person/s that can change things if needed or can reinforce the reasons why they are done the way they are.

Know that working together is what will help the group succeed and the Children access the best resources and outcomes.
Know that the job is what you want to do - even if temporarily.

Thanks Ruthie. I'm doing a leadership and management course and it's making me really sit back and think "is this how I WANT the setting to run?" Sadly i'm coming to the conclusion that the playworkers are not how i want them to be. I'm not one for confrontation but i have allowed things to go in a way i don't want. A difficult time ahead i fear!

Many congratulations on the ideas for moving your setting forwards, it's never easy, or shouldn't be considered easy when working in a group, views and opinions can be so varied.

I did it!! I had a quite word with her at the end of the session (having stressed about it all day!!!) She said she'd realised last night that she had perhaps spoken out of turn. She said she knows she's nosy and it's something she feels she needs to work on. So with performance management coming up that will be a useful target.
