Empathy: The ability to put oneself in another person's place in order to feel and understand him/her without critisism or judging.

Focused attention: ‘tuning in’ to an individual child’s needs and interests through listening and observing carefully, paying attention, making eye contact and engaging in one-to-one conversations.
