Lightbulb Octopals water - messy play resources

Octopals from Tomy


These cute chracters would be good for exploring facial expressions - emotions. Science & suction, force and pressure.

A nice addition or change to Messy play provision, they can be used for number matching games and colour activites.

Being squirty toys, planning for supervision or intervention may be necessary


Suggetions for resources that could accompany this toy:
Small nets
Net bags
Buckets for scooping
Spoons and ladles for picking the octopals up.
Bath mat or anti slip shapes to show how octopi move and use the suckers on each tentacle.

For KnUW - food colouring and pipet/syringes to show how octopus have ink.
PSED - Chat about how opctopus use their ink spray to protect themselves - make a fog in the water to give them time to get away and maybe how others are asked to leave them alone.
MD - PSRN Octopus have 8 legs and how many suckers on each one?
CLL - keywords, tentacles, suckers and suction, Octopus, water.
PD - Water play, gross & fine motor movements in picking up, squeezing, moving, standing, reaching.
CD - role play with the items in play. Where necessary add strips of foams, foil, pieces of wood or plastic storage box lids as platforms - float and sink - build and design habitats for the Octopals.

Gap fill: by adding a red item + any additional colours being explored or evaluation may of highlighted as required.
Numbered resources to continue counting & for numeral recognition up to 10 or 20 ..
