067 4.3 - I put this and it was signed off.

Examples of strategies which I have developed in dealing with the difficult situation of bullying are as follows:-
If a child is being bullied, I will:
• listen carefully and take what he/she tells me seriously and never ridicule their predicament
• tell him/her that I care about them and do everything I can to help sort things out
• reassure him/her that they are not to blame
• help him/her feel valued whilst in my care by giving them responsibilities and asking them to help me
• help him/her feel good about themselves via positive praise and encouragement
If a child is bullying, I will:
• reassure him/her that I still care about them and it is their behaviour I don't like and I will do everything I can to help him/her change this behaviour and to find ways to make amends for his/her behaviour
• develop a reward system to promote good behaviour
• discuss the matter with the parents but not in front of the child, to see if we can figure out what, if anything, has triggered the bullying behaviour
The situation will be discussed with parents immediately and I will work with them to support the child to resolve the problem.
