Hi, pages 205 of the Support Teaching and Learning handbook explains how settings support children's literacy development.

As these criteria relate directly to the setting that you work/volunteer or are on placement in, you'll need to ask the class teacher about the way they identify and monitor children's progress ie. what programme and strategies do they use?

How do you identify the literacy demands of learning activities? How is this reflected in your practice?

What does a literacy activity planner look like in your classroom?

Needs will be structured so that children learn in an organised way.
Phonic, spelling, vocabulary, grammar and VCOP
What shared reading or guided writing is involved
What the assessment focus is
What's to be explained through the plenary
What the actual activity is and what resources are needed.
What differentiation is involved

Best wishes
