Default sleeping babies SID

Grim topic to discuss i know but just redoing our policies inline with EYFS I have been given a list of extra ones i need to include and sleeping babies SID is included. I run a sessional preschool 2-5 years and wondered if this one needs to be included, not sure if it would just apply to care of babies, i feel it should apply because child may go to sleep and worse case scenario may happen but not sure if there is an age limit on this can anyone help

This is the publication the Eyfs says you should (not must, it's in the guidance, not statutory bit) have available...

Surely then you'd follow your emergency procedure?

Attempt first aid and get breaths / compressions started ... get help ... call ambulance... call parents ... call emergency contacts ...

Afterwards write up incident ... inform Ofsted ... inform insurance company ... inform local safeguarding children board ... follow advice.

This is the policy our EYSO gave us ;-Sudden death of a child in our care or an adult in our setting.

Death at any time is traumatic for relatives and friends of the deceased but more so when it is an unexpected death.

At...............we take the health and safety of our children and staff very seriously, health and safety risk assessments are carried out regularly but other factors may contribute to a sudden death.

If the unfortunate incident of a sudden death of a child/adult occurs, the following steps would be taken:-

Every effort would be made to revive the casualty by a trained first aider.
Contact emergency services immediately asking for ambulance and police.
Any children in the area would be moved to minimise trauma.
Manager/owner of the setting would inform other parents/staff not on duty.
Support would be offered to all staff/parents if required.
Review the circumstances of the incident and implement any necessary changes.
hope this helps
