The relationship between legislation, policy and procedure
Every aspect of early years care and education i subject to legislation in the relevant area of the UK. These laws are reinforced by the use of policies and procedures in early years settings. Policies are a statement of intent for different aspects of the setting, and procedures outline the ways in which policies can be carried out.
For example every setting must conform to the current legislation on health and safety. Each setting has its own policy with regard to meeting those requirements and the procedures to be followed in different situations.
Legislation for child protection -Protection of children act 1999
and guidelines can be found in '
Working together to safeguard children 2015'
