• Explain to assessor how you identify and build on strengths of child/young person with S, L and C difficulties implement positive practice
• Now compare strategies you use to encourage strengths and those based around child’s difficulties (what is same/different).

Hi, the knowledge you have about each child when you make observations and assessments means you're able to identify strengths in cognitive development and memory, reading and writing, behaviour, social development, speech patterns and pronunciation, vocabulary and the places in the setting a child enjoys conversation and communication with others. Pages 294+ of this EYE handbook.

Speech, language and communication strengths include: pronunciation/ability to sound out words, understanding what is being said, ability to produce language and using language in appropriate context http://www.talkingpoint.org.uk/paren...ldren-struggle

Specific strategies will differ depending on a setting but will involve:
  • The settings understanding of theory and the requirements of EYFS (if in England) What activities take place that meet EYFS requirements for listening, attention, understanding and speaking. Early learning goals. 2 year old progress check.
  • Recognising the importance of the early year's practitioner and the way they individually interact with children to support speech, language and communication - gesturing, eye contact, facial expression, body language, clarity and speed at which you talk, use of sign language
  • Having language rich environments - room displays, labels, signs
  • Be able to lead activities that support children's development of SLC
  • Other ideas are the Phonics programme/planning your setting uses, and sustaining communication through shared thinking.

The ideas on this USA site are good https://www.asha.org/public/speech/d...Activities.htm

Hope this helps a little
