Alert Annual electrical tests?

Just checked out this months HSE July 2007 myths page to find that they don't require a compulsory 12 monthly electricals' check to be done

When it comes to Good Practice it's appropriate to be able to say all elecricals are checked regularly & results are documented in the risk assessments or evalution diaries but do insurance companies, fire regs, LEAs require an electricians form as the only documented evidence before allowing cover/issusing certificates ?

We have all our 'plug in' equipment checked every year....thought this was a requirement?
We share our building so only check our own equipment...parish council do shared equipment yearly too....

It may not be a legal requirement, but for the safety of our staff and children I'm sure we should still do it. Luckily we have a "tame" electrician who only charges an hour's labour to do all our stuff (about £25). He condemned our cooker as it wasn't properly earthing and one of our plug banks which runs the PC was dodgy.

Its fine for them to say its not compulsory, but if there was a problem, I'm sure someone would be asking for the relevant paperwork to prove we'd had our test. Better safe than sorry!
