Guidance on the duty to identify children missing education

Following a public consultation (August to October 2008), the DCSF has issued revised Statutory Guidance on the duty for local authorities to identify children not receiving a suitable education. It is aimed at Children's Trusts, schools, their partners, and practitioners helping children/young people to achieve the ECM outcomes, particularly the most vulnerable.Whist it does not introduce new statutory responsibilities as the duty remains unchanged, the guidance does contain changes that reflect local authorities’ experience of implementing this duty to date. In particular it emphasises the duty's role in the wider work undertaken by local authorities to keep children/young people safe from harm.
