Default baby room

hi, I have a new job where I am now in the baby room with 0-15 month year olds, I have never worked with this age before. I am trying to find new and interesting activities to cover the EYFS as when I looked through the last few months planning the activities were repeated every 2 weeks and often seemed stale and boring to me, so I am after some new fresh ideas please???

I don't work with babies either, so perhaps you will get much better advice, but for now how about breaking it down into areas and seeing if that helps you such as:-

messy play - then think of what you can offer them - trays at floor level with gloop (cornflour and water), sand, peat, pasta, water - add ducks or scoops, small buckets and watering cans etc

puzzles - you can get some lovely one piece chunky peg puzzles.

chunky bricks - there's some lovely wooden toys such as 'domino' people.

treasure baskets - material - chiffon, silk , wooden pegs, spools, cotton reels, pine cones etc

large paper placed on the floor and chunky crayons offered, paint -make textured paint

outdoor play - small sit 'n' rides, - take toys from inside to outside

muscal instruments - small bells, tambourines

singing - clapping - buy some different CD's for them and your voice (of course)

interacive books, novelty books, cloth, plastic, board books

mobiles - bought or made with ribbons, foil and bells attached.

mirrors - nice safe foam ones out.

baskets, containers, material etc

Obviously make sure everything is safe and suitable - i.e. material length is not too long for them to get tangled up or choke themselves on anything.

Have a look in your EYFS pack - look under the section of effective practice and what to provide under every age group you are providing for and you'll get a much better selection than I've written.

If you don't have a pack of your own, order one from teachernet - you just have to register if you aren't already- and they are free.
I hope this helps.

Farley's that's great news, many congratulations on the job

To add on, could you introduce a small inflatable pool, using it for various activities - ball pool, books, blanket, sand and containers of water, small soft toys and fishing nets?

Best wishes xx
