hia tracey44, i wrote about a page for this question. using my settings health and safety policy i wrote the following - Explain how health and safety is monitored and maintained and how people in the work setting are made aware of risks and hazards and encouraged to work safely.
Every work setting must have a policy that maintains the safety of children and young people as well as the safety of parents/carers and visitors.

My settings health and safety policy is to try and ensure that all reasonable practical steps are taken to secure the health, safety and welfare of everyone using the school premises.

The head teacher is the person in my setting who is responsible for health and safety. Any health and safety issues or hazards should be reported to him as soon as possible so he can take appropriate action and stop any use of any equipment he may consider to be unsafe until he is satisfied they are safe.

The head teacher will make all staff aware of any risks and hazards by holding a staff meeting or putting a notice up on the staff room notice board.

If the floor of the corridors or classrooms are wet and becomes slippy, a wet floor sign must be put up in that area as a warning for a slip hazard.

It is the head teachers responsibility to ensure that all staff know, accept and are trained to discharge their responsibilities regarding health and safety. He must also liaise regularly with the governing body on health and safety matters in the termly head teacher’s report.

Other health and safety officers in my setting must ensure that the areas for which they are responsible for, are maintained to high standards, carry out a regular safety inspection of the areas and activities for which they are responsible for and where necessary submit a report to the head teacher. They must also ensure that relevant risk assessments are preformed and the results are recorded in the risk assessment folder and that necessary action is taken.

All members of staff (as responsible adults) should set a good example by adopting good health and safety practices and procedures, supervise the pupils and ensure that they know the emergency procedures in respect of fire, bomb scare and first aid. Staff members are also expected to request/obtain protective clothing, guards, special safe working procedures, etc where necessary and ensure their use.

Class teachers are expected to recommend to the head teacher, improvements on safety equipment which are dangerous or potentially so.

i haven't had this signed of yet tho x

all of what i wrote was from the H&S policy.

for 1.3 i wrote a few lines on what each of the following do -
Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
Health and Safety at Work Act
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
The electricity at work regulations 1989
Fire precautions act 1971 and regulations
The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR)
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
The Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT)
British Red Cross
Food Standards Agency
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

if you google these one at a time you'll find their websites, read the 'about us' bit and just write a sentence or two about what they do. x
